A. About Sony Technolook video microscope models

A1. What are magnifications on Sony Technolook video microscope?

For model TW-TL1S and TW-TL5M, 4x-40x based on 7" high resolution flat panel LCD, or 8x-80x based on 14" video monitor.
For model TW-TL10S and TW-TL10M, 10x-100x based on 7" LCD, or 20x-200x based on 14" video monitor.
For model TW-TLNS8, 8x-80x based on 7" LCD, or 16x-160x based on 14" video monitor.

A2. Can Sony Technolook video microscope system perform measurement?

Yes, Caltex provides VMS-1 video measurement software and video capture card VICA for connecting in your PC, which allows users to mouse click for dimensional measurement of XY, diameter, radius, area, and angle. Measurements can be up to 3µ accuracy and very easy to use.

A3. What are differences between "S" and "M" models?

Both "S" and "M" models come with integrated CCD, LCD, lighting, laser pointer, video electronics for easy inspection. Plus S-video and composite video outputs for connecting to TV, VCR, DVD-R or PC (through video capture card VICA)
"M" models come with memory stick & USB for easy taking picture with one button, you can transfer JPG image by USB port and cable that come with the system or transfer by memory stick. It's even more user friendly and convenient.

A4. Is there an option with larger screen than 7" LCD on Sony Technolook?

Yes, Sony video microscopes come standard with 7" high resolution LCD screen. You can use S-video or composite video to connect with large screen TV, or connect computer monitor with video capture card.

B. About Caltex BGA Scope system

B1. What is the smallest ball size Caltex BGA Scope system can see, such as Micro BGA and Flip Chip?

Caltex BGA scope can see the minimum ball stand-off height of 0.004 inch (or about 100µ)

B2. In high density PC board, what is minimum component gaps BGA scope lens can fit in for inspection?

BGA prism tip profile is 0.9mm. Easily Caltex BGA scope can fit in component gaps as small as 1 mm.

B3. How far inside BGA rows can you inspect with your BGA scope?

Caltex BGA Scope can view up to 7th or 8th row inside BGA package. How deep you can inspect depends on how wide the gap between BGA balls and ball pitch you have. The wider the gap, the deeper you can inspect. Caltex BGA Scope has focus range up to 2 cm.

B4. Can you measure BGA?

You can measure BGA ball height, ball size, ball gap (pitch), ball diameter or radius, angles, and co planarity of BGA package, all with simple mouse clicks.

B5. Why are differences between optical and X-ray for BGA inspection?

Caltex BGA scope is optical-video based system: the cost is much lower, less training required, easier to setup, better & more detailed color images on BGA balls. But inspection time is slower, recommended as good Analytical, inspection and measurement system for BGA.
X-ray system: much faster inspection, black & white X-ray image, higher cost, more training involved.

B6. Can I add BGA scope to my current system?

If you are a current 3D scope or Hi-Scope user, you can simply add BGA scope lens (MX-BGAZ) to your system. All lenses are forward and backward compatible. You can quickly expand inspection for BGA.

C. About Caltex 3D Scope system

C1. Can I use my CCD camera on 3D Scope system?

If you purchase C-Mount version of Power Zoom Lens (CM-5030Z), then you can use any C-mount ready CCD cameras for imaging.  If you prefer the flexibility of interchanging with various Hi-Scope lenses, then you are better off purchasing Hi-Scope Main Control unit which comes with a common interface and quick changeover mechanism for all Hi-Scope lenses.

C2. Can I use my existing video monitor, video printer to connect with 3D Scope system?

Yes. All video equipments made for USA have the same NTSC standard. We recommend S-video connections for better image quality.  However if you have PAL standard, then you need to specify Hi-Scope system in PAL version.

C3. Can I add 3-D Rotary Head adapter to my microscopes?

No. Because every microscope has different designs for focal length, lighting, threads, depth of focus, and so on, it is almost impossible to mount a Hi-Scope Snap-On adapters to a microscope and expect it will works as is.

C4. Can 3D Scope System perform measurement?

Yes, currently we can do both FOV (field of view) and X-Y Stage Travel measurements.  For FOV measurement applications, you can use the X-Y video measurement system (hardware base) or  Digital-Video measurement software (software base, to go with Digital-Video image workstation VICA).  For X-Y Stage Travel, various sizes, accuracy, encoders are available to go with X-Y Stage Travel for measurement, with accuracy to 0.1 micron.

C5. Is there any maintenance required of 3D Scope system?

Very little maintenance is required. The only item you have to replace occasionally is the Light Bulb. The light bulb has approx. 1000 hours life span, cost about $45 each. It is good practice to replace the light bulb once a year.   You can purchase replacement light bulb by contacting our office: Tel 949-788-0101, Fax 949-788-0202, or email info@caltexsci.com.

C6. How do I maintain and clean the optics?

Optics are very delicate items, you want to handle them carefully just like your camera. Please do NOT drop them on the hard surface. If they are dusty, best to use Compressed DRY Air to blow off those dust particles without touching the optic surface. If they are dirty or greased, then use a Clean Room swab with 70% alcohol to clean the grease and air dry.

C7. How high of magnification can I go up to with 3D Scope system?

The highest magnification with Straight view is 7000x. The highest magnification with 3-D Rotational view is 600x.

C8. How low of magnification can I go with 3D Scope system?

The lowest magnification with Straight view is less than 1x. The lowest magnification with 3-D Rotational view is 12x.

C9. Is 3-D Scope system available with Mega Pixel Digital Camera?

Yes, Digital camera is an emerging technology, it usually connects directly into your computer through a plug-in board.  Digital camera may offer higher resolution images, but it lacks in "smooth motion" and "real-time" imaging.  i.e. the refresh rate is too slow due to band width.  There are wide range of pixel resolution as well prices among various digital cameras.  But if the camera is equipped with C-mount thread, then it's ready to add to 3-D Scope system.  Caltex Scientific offers Digital Cameras (up to 12 mega pixel) and various CCD video cameras to customers.
